Q: What are the common tunneling protocols?
There are currently three major tunneling protocols for VPNs. They are:
- Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP)
- Internet Protocol Security (IPSec)
- Layer 2 Tunneling Protocol (L2TP)
Two proprietary protocols often seen are:
- Ascend’s ATMP
- Cisco’s L2F
