Tunnel Mode

• Tunnel mode encapsulates an entire IP packet within an IP packet to ensure that no part of the original packet is changed as it is moved through a network

• The entire original, or inner, packet travels through a tunnel from one point of an IP network to another

  • No routers along the way need to examine the inner IP header
