• general headers:

  • applicable to request and response
  • Connection, Date, Pragma, ...

• request headers:

  • Accept-Encoding, User-Agent, If-Modified-Since, …

• response headers:

  • Age, Location, WWW-Authenticate, ...

• entity headers:

  • Content-Encoding, Content-Length, Last-Modified, ...

• headers are hop-by-hop or end-to-end (HTTP 1.1)
