E@P.connect project will build the backbone network in Eastern Europe

As we recently learned, the E@P.connect project (former known as EPIC – Eastern Partnership Interconnection) is now during negotiations stage and will be most probably launched in the early 2016.

The project based on a feasibility study prepared by CEENET within GN3Plus project (and based on CEENET’s CEENGINE project findings), will aim at procurement and implementation of (preferably) dedicated optical infrastructure connecting NRENs Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova with GEANT ┬ánetwork and dedicated optical channels connecting Southern Caucasus countries.

The project, scheduled for the next three years, is supposed to maximize the fibre availability for NRENs in the region – and – as a unique arrangement – will procure infrastructure that will last long beyond the project lifetime, thus ensuring long term sustainability. The project is valued at 13.000.000 EUR with EC contribution reaching 95%.
