Organizational structure
ARNES is an independent public institution directed by a Board of
Directors (six persons) which appoints the Menaging Director. Daily work is
done by the Technical Board.
Actual topology
Star topology with Ljubljana in the centre. Lines to Koper, Nova
Gorica, Kranj, Maribor, Celje and Nove Mesto.
International link to EUROPANet and ACONet. Test line to Moscow.
Protocols used
IP, X.25 and DECNET.
Number of hosts and users
15 institutions, 14 faculties of the University of Ljubljana.
Financial sources
ARNES is financed directly from the state budget (Ministry of Science and
Technology and the Ministry of Education and Sport). It may aquire funds from
commercial sources.
Plans for future:
Increase of ports in Ljubljana. New cities connected: Postojna, Krsko, Ravne,
Murska Sobota and Ptuj. Link to the EUROPANET will be upgraded to 1 Mbps.
Main obstacles
Large part of the traffic (60% to 80%) is international - but international
tarrifs are up to 10 times higher then domestic.
