Organizational structure
CESNET, the Czech Educational and Scientific Network has been
interconnecting the educational, academic and others institutions in
the Czech Republic since 1993. Its official operator is the Computing
Center of the Czech Technical University; it cooperates closely with
personnel at other universities of the Czech Republic and it is
supported by the Czech Ministry of Education. The operational matters
are decided by the CESNET Committee ( its members come from
universities and the Czech Academy of Science ); strategic planning
and decisions are made by the CESNET Board, the advisory body of the
Czech Ministry of education, whose members come from the Ministry of
Education, selected Universities and from Czech Academy of
Sciences.

Number of hosts connected and estimated number of users
12093 hosts were connected to CESNET as of March 14 1995. Estimated
number of users was 20 to 30 thousand.
Financial sources
CESNET is financed by the Czech Ministry of Education. A part of the
CESNET expenses is paid by other institutions e.g. the Czech Academy
of Sciences.
Plans for the future
Main goals:
- continuing of the CESNET infrastructure
- connecting most secondary schools in the Czech Republic
ATM pilot network in Prague is operational now; similar networks in
other cities ( Brno, Plznen, Liberec) should be available in 1995.
Main problems
Lack of financial resources and qualified personnel, very high costs
of leased lines.
